Many of you will be aware of the wonderful Advent Blog series, curated from 2011-2013 by Alison Chisnell, and from 2014-2018 by Kate Griffiths-Lambeth. I was lucky enough to inherit the curation of this series in 2019 and this year marks its 13th (and my 5th as curator) series.
It’s now time to get ready for the 2023 series.
This post explains what it is all about and how you can participate.
Whatever kind of year you’ve had, it’s been an interesting one. Full of amazing highs, possibly some desperate lows and likely a bit of both and all points in-between. If you feel like sharing some your experiences, memories and thoughts then here’s how.
On 1 December I’ll publish the first in the series of Advent Blogs, here. It’ll be promoted on X/Twitter, Threads, LinkedIn and Facebook using the hashtag #AdventBlogs. Every day a new guest author will contribute a post until such time as we run out of contributions.
Nominally this should last us until Xmas but, if previous years are anything to go by, the contributions will last well into January and no contribution is ever declined.
I’ve taken part in the series since 2015, and each year the contributions inspire a range of emotions but above all make us think.
Each year the series has a title as a theme for the year, to offer some inspiration for those wishing to contribute.
Each year the Advent Blogs series is something to look forward to, and both Kate and before that Alison have created an amazing tradition and strong platform to build upon.
This years’ theme: When I grow up
The aim is simply to give time and space for you to share the stories you have, to reflect, to listen and more.
The posts can be personal or professional or a mixture of both. There are few rules – anyone can contribute, as long as the posts have a sense of “you” in them.
In years gone by, people have shared successes, fears, hopes, challenges, personal stories, plans and more.
Here’s hoping you will want to contribute. Otherwise this could be a very short series this year.
If you would like to contribute, please get in touch with me via any means you can. X/Twitter, Threads, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, email (gary.cookson@epichr.co.uk), in person or any other appropriate means.
Contributions should reach me whenever you’re ready on a Word (or similar document), along with any short biography you want to share (a paragraph is enough) and any images if you want them.
People often ask if there is a deadline. There is – the day before the last post goes out. This of course is a moveable feast, but usually mid-January. Submitting a post during November will guarantee it goes out early December. Submitting early December should see it go out mid-December. Submitting mid-December will see it go out around Christmas/New Year. Submitting late December or early January will see it go out early to mid-January.
Over to you.
Till next time…
Gary
